Political Leaders of Tomorrow Internship Training Program

Think Mauritius is proposing to launch a “Political Leaders of Tomorrow Internship Training Program”. The program is designed to train the next generation of political leaders to help them achieve a fulfilling career in politics, to serve their constituency with dedication and to be an asset for the nation. The proposed training methodology will enable candidates to interact with eminent resource persons and to be actively involved in hands-on research and real-life experiences.

Objectives of the programme

The objectives of the programme are to help potential political candidates:

  • To develop the appropriate knowledge, skills and mind set to successfully engage in political campaigns including the utilization of social media
  • To acquire a broad based knowledge of the legal, political, constitutional, social, cultural, historical, geographical and environmental features of country
  • To develop the proper knowledge, attitude, skills and ideology to serve their constituencies and the whole nation in line with the basic principles of democracy, transparency, meritocracy, equity etc.
  • To develop political leadership attitudes and skills to participate effectively in political debates as members parliament.
  • To participate effectively in the socio-economic and environmental development of the island

Programme Title

Political Leaders of Tomorrow Internship Training Program

Programme duration

The programme comprises 90 contact hours spread over 30 weeks at the rate of 3 hours per week. The sessions will be held on Saturdays from 9.00 to 12.00 hours.

Conditions for participation

  • Candidates should pay a nominal fee to cover the logistics cost
  • Candidates will be required to hold regular meetings with opinion leaders and citizens in their constituency to bring about a change in their political mind set.


The training programme is open to Mauritian nationals . It is tailored for

  • University students
  • Community leaders/activists
  • Social workers
  • Engaged professionals
  • Union activists
  • NGO members


Selection of candidates

Candidates will be required to fill in a participation form and to submit a motivation letter. They may be required to attend a selection interview.

As the seats are limited, candidates will be selected according to a set of criteria from a short list that will be established by a selection committee.

Mode of delivery

The programme will consist of lectures by eminent resource persons, seminars, case study, group work and group presentation, group brain storming and discussion

Programme management team

The programme management team will be responsible for the smooth delivery of the programme. The team reserves the right to bring about changes in the content of the programme following feedback obtained from various stakeholders.


Communication with trainees and among trainees will be essentially through emails, SMS, Skype, You Tube, Facebook, Whatsap etc. Print communication will be avoided as far as possible.


Candidates will be required to submit a portfolio (a hard and a soft copy) as evidence of the research work that they have undertaken and the field work/research work that they have carried out in their constituency.


An attendance certificate will be issued to all participants who have attended 90% of the sessions.
